Zachary Carter

 Zachary Carter is a dedicated criminal defence lawyer. Called to the bar in 2019, he practised in Prince Albert before joining Pfefferle Law in 2021. He maintains a busy trial practice and has experience assisting as co-counsel on appeals before the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. 

He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan, where he was awarded the Foster Prize for highest academic achievement in Human Rights and the Saskatchewan Trial Lawyers Association Prize for Trial Advocacy. As an active mooter, his team won the National Trial Advocacy Competition in Ottawa (Sopinka Cup), where he also won an individual prize. He is now a sessional lecturer at the University of Saskatchewan, where he coaches the Gale Moot team along with Thomas Hynes.

Zachary holds an honours degree in music with distinction and performs in the bass section of the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra. Throughout law school, he performed and volunteered with The Dissent, a time-honoured cover band that performs music to raise money for deserving causes. During his studies, he also volunteered with Pro Bono Students Canada in addition to taking an intensive clinical law practicum at Community Legal Assistance Services for Saskatoon Inner City to provide legal assistance to marginalised members of Saskatchewan.

He actively serves on the council of the Interior Designers Association of Saskatchewan as a public member appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council, in addition to serving as a member at large for the St. Thomas More College Corporation, for which he chairs the bylaw committee. He previously served on the inaugural board of directors for Firebird North Sistema Music Project, which is a charitable organization inspired by the El Sistema model that provides music and body-movement instruction to deserving youth in Prince Albert.

Outside of the office, Zachary enjoys music, cooking, and time with family.
